Pregnancy and Nutrition...
Pregnancy and Nutrition:
1. Only need 300 extra calories per day for the pregnancy, ex: 1 slice of whole wheat bread, with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, a fruit and 1 cup of milk. Even though women crave foods, be carefull not to overeat, which is what equals too much weight gain. Infact only 25 to 35 pounds recommended in weight gain if prepregnancy weight is healthy.
2. Folic acid, need 600mcg for fetus neural tube development. Recommended to get in Prenatal Vitamin.
3. Need to have 1,00mg of calcium per day.
4. Be carefull of food borne illnesses more prone to pregnant women such as Listeria, Methyl Mercury and Toxoplasma, description on www.cfsan.fda.gov/~pregnant/ataglanc.html. A a very good website with description of the importance of basic food safety and proper temperatures of foods.
5. Spoke about cravings: Brought in a gift basket for Jeff: Skyline, Graeters icecream certificate, Flaxseed Meal for Omega 3, Pickles, Water and high vitamin C fruits, oranges and grapefruit cups as well as whole grain pasta, emphasizing need for fiber.
6. Emphasized whatching caffeine intake during pregnancy, keep at 300mg/ day.. also not to do herbal teas.
